Protect your children in your car. Adult seat belts don't safely restrain small bodies and undeveloped bones and muscles of infants and young children. Use an approved child safety restraint:

Infant seats - rear-facing safety seats for babies from birth to about 20 pounds.

Convertible safety seats - change from rear-facing for infants to front-facing for tots weighing 20-plus pounds up to about four years old.

Booster seats - for children too large for convertable seats, but too small for adult seat belts.

Safety belts - lap/shoulder belts fit securely across the hips and chest of 50-plus pound children in the back seat.

Always restrain every child in a car, preferably in the back. Place rear-facing seats in the back seat, and use both lap and shoulder belts on larger children. Always buckle yourself in, too.
